OUR VISION

To Turn our Community Upside Down for Jesus Christ

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The following are the core beliefs of Mt Pleasant Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

About God

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Genesis 1:1, 26, 27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; II Corinthians 13:14

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after 3 days to demonstrate his power over sin & death. He ascended into heaven & will come again to judge the living and the dead, and to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Matthew 1:22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:15-15; Titus 2:13

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father, and the Son. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation providing power for living, understanding of spiritual truth and guidance in doing what is right.
II Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-14; 16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18

About The Bible

The Bible is God’s Word to us and how God speaks to and reveals Himself to His followers. We believe it is eternal and true. It was written by human authors fully inspired by the Holy Spirit. It is the primary source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. All that is essential to salvation is found in the Bible.
11 Timothy 3:16; 11 Peter 1:20-21; 11 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105; 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

About Resurrection

Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of God’s kingdom on earth.

About Salvation

It is impossible for any of us to reach our full potential on our own. In and of ourselves, we lack the power to become better people. God, however, reaches out to us. Salvation is God’s free gift to us, but we must claim it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from their sin. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved.
Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26;
Romans 5:1

About Baptism

It’s the first thing God asks us to do once we believe and decide to spend our lives following Him. Baptism is an outward symbol of an inward change. At Mt. Pleasant, this is something we celebrate together as a church family.

As a follower of Jesus, baptism is a public statement that your faith and commitment to Him is real. We are not called to live our lives alone, but to find a growing community to share life and experience with. Through baptism, we are asking our family of faith to walk with us in a way that brings Glory to God.

  • Through baptism we are joined with the church and with Christians everywhere.
  • Baptism is a symbol of new life and a sign of God’s love and forgiveness of our sins.
  • Persons of any age can be baptized.
  • We baptize by immersion, sprinkling or pouring.

If you would like to go public about your decision to be a Christ-follower, Mt. Pleasant would love to share this amazing experience with you.

To plan to participate in our next celebration Sunday, or if you have questions about what baptism could mean for your life, our pastoral staff would love to discuss this next step with you.

Our Story

How It All Started

More than a century has passed since Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church had its humble beginning in a little one-room church in 1867. The membership was small but they began a lasting tradition for our church as they grew both in number and Christian love and fellowship.

Expanding the Vision

Carrying on the tradition set by that little one room church in 1867, we continue to grow in number and Christian love and fellowship. We look up with thankful hearts to our Heavenly Father, praising Him for all of His bountiful blessings on Mt. Pleasant. We look back with a deep sense of gratitude to the dedicated Christians through all those years for their faithful service that made our church what it is today. We look forward with faith, hope and great anticipation for continued growth and spread of the gospel and love of Jesus Christ into our community and world.

Where We Are Headed

As we remain committed to Christ’s mission, our goal is to glorify God by making disciples by boldly sharing the unfailing love of Jesus. We commit to growing as disciples, making disciples, multiplying/growing His church and glorifying God by trusting Jesus in us to do all things through us… in spite of us.

We invite you to join us as we grow God’s kingdom on earth and make an eternal difference in the lives of those around us. God is doing amazing things at Mt. Pleasant and we would love for you to be a part of that story.
