Job Title: Congregational Care Pastor

Reports To: Chairman of Elders

Takes Daily Direction From: Senior Pastor

Position Status: Full Time Exempt

Work Schedule: Minimum 40 hours/wk, evenings and weekends included

Salary Range: $40, 000 – $50, 000 depending on experience

Purpose

The associate pastor is responsible for building a sense of community in the church by ministering to the special needs of church members.

This person will show the love of Christ in action. This role is the point person to ensure pastoral care to the congregation, elderly and shut-in’s, and is the central point of contact for congregational care needs. This position also assists the Senior Pastor in meeting the counseling needs of the church by supplying Biblical counseling to members in need. This is under direct oversight of the Senior Pastor and reports to the Elders.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Make in-home and hospital visits to provide support for births, illness, hospitalization, shut-in members; visit and contact regularly.
  • Pray for and with church members experiencing hardships.
  • Provide support for family members of the terminally ill.
  • Seek assistance for and offer support to the chronically ill.
  • Visit and offer emotional/spiritual support to grieving members.
  • Work with the Pastoral Care Deacon to coordinate volunteers to provide care to the congregation: such as, prepare and deliver food on short term basis, visit and pray with ill or grieving members, etc.
  • Inform pastor of special needs and report on those who are sick, hospitalized, experiencing financial difficulty, etc.
  • Remain in contact with prayer-group leaders regarding special prayer needs.
  • Provide emotional and spiritual support to the unemployed. Seek help from church for financial needs, if necessary, with confidentiality.
  • Provide Biblical counseling to individual church members and member families
  • Become a member of Mt. Pleasant Church and actively participate in the weekly worship and small group activities.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality standards.
  • Provide community referrals as appropriate.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings with the Senior Pastor
  • Attend Administrative Council meetings as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Born again Christian with clear theological beliefs that are consistent with Mt. Pleasant Church’s Statement of Beliefs
  • Willing to become an active member at Mt. Pleasant Church
  • Possesses effective communication, organization and leadership skills, to consistently communicate with families and church staff.
  • Compassionate and encouraging Christian who focuses his/her ministry on earning the trust and respect of the congregation by maintaining caring, professional and nurturing relationships with the congregation, our pastors and the community.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering pastoral care in a church or hospital setting
  • Background in chaplaincy, counseling and/or pastoral care
  • Must pass a criminal background check as a condition of employment
  • Must hold a valid NC driver’s license

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in church settings as a senior or associate pastor
  • Bible college certificate or Seminary degree
  • Formal counseling training or certification, or significant experience in lieu of formal training
